Humans united First there was World Laughter Day celebrated on May 4, 2008, by an estimated 250,000 people laughing in 60 countries their desire for peace. So much anticipations had built around the Indian celebrations that CNN/IBN India covered the event the whole day with several live satellite connections from distant cities. The North American celebrations were strong with at least one in most US and Canadian states. See the pictures. Then came Pangea Day in Los Angeles on May 10, 2008, with special guest Dr Madan Kataria who led an estimated 25 million people in 180 countries through 1 minute of laughter for world peace, in real time. See the video. Next are the daily news: Dr Kataria is teaching Laughter Yoga in Teheran, Iran, and myself doing the same in Moscow, Russia, both in July 2008 (I am also going to England, France, Italy, Australia and Texas); more and more Laughter Clubs are sprouting in Africa, South America and Eastern Europe; there is a constant media coverage of Laughter Clubs in the world's press. Is the global Laughter Yoga family changing the world? My answer is a definite yes. It may not appear to be much, and it's one of these "not much" that's happening on a global scale and impacting millions of people. What is the power and impact of someone laughing? To me it's the same thing as for the meteorological butterfly effect: a little nothing here ends up having major effects over there, and we'll never know about it. We are slowly building up positive vibrations, and one day we'll reach critical mass. Do we have an agenda? Laughter Yoga shares many of the characteristics of water. It fulfils a human need, is easy to use, always finds a way, belongs to no-one, always takes the shape and color of the environment it is in, and fosters Life everywhere it goes without any personal nor political agenda. Patience is the mother of all virtues. What is to happen will happen, and what isn't supposed to, won't. Let's do our best here, now; smile, breathe, and if you're OK with it, laugh too. It's a good place to start and something you can genuinely do something about (it's easy too!) Have a vibrantly peaceful summer! All smiles Sebastien Gendry |
