Who We Are

The American School Of Laughter Yoga is the oldest and largest provider of Laughter Yoga education in North America and currently (2010) serves the educational needs of people in 157 countries and territories. The school was founded in 2004 by Sebastien Gendry, the first American to train as a Certified Laughter Yoga Teacher.

Our ambition is to support and strengthen the growth of Laughter Yoga to mainstream level in North America through teaching excellence; pursuing official accreditation (CE Credits) of the Laughter Yoga training by a variety of teaching institutions and professional organizations; creation and distribution of award winning educational products; support and empowerment of the Laughter Yoga community at large; master-minding of a variety of community projects in North America; organization of an annual national Laughter Yoga conference and in time similar regional conferences; constant interactions with the national media; a strong online presence and an industry leading website.

We excel at using (and teaching!) laughter and play techniques to inspire and empower individuals and teams to live healthier, happier, more connected lives.

What’s Unique About Us

We spearhead the Laughter Yoga movement in North America and have substantially built on the original Laughter Yoga method devised by Dr Madan Kataria in India in 1995 and added many extra layers very relevant to our western culture that have taken this simple concept of simulated laughter exercises to new height of benefits while maintaining its ease of implementation.

We are still affiliated and strong supporters of the Dr Kataria School Of Laughter Yoga. Our deepest gratitude goes to and remains with Dr Kataria. We would not be here if he had not been there.

Played a major role in helping introduce Laughter Yoga in North America (we helped Dr Kataria write the first Laughter Yoga Teacher training manual, organized the first teachers trainings in the USA for him, have trained over 1000 Certified Laughter Yoga Leaders ourselves, keep promoting the values of this method and Laughter Clubs with the US media);
Were instrumental in getting major US media networks to cover Laughter Yoga in 2006-2007: CNN, ABC, Telemundo, Associated Press, Oprah Winfrey Show and more.
Were the first to introduce Laughter Yoga in Russia in 2008 (we’ve been there twice already and are going back in July 2010);
Organizers of every annual All America Laughter Yoga Conference since 2006;
Deliver trainings and keynote addresses worldwide; Our C.E.O. Sebastien Gendry travels in excess of 70,000 miles every year;
On the leading edge of the international Laughter Yoga movement: Sebastien is one of the top leading Laughter Yoga experts in the world. He served for 2.5 years (2005-2007) as World Operations Director for Laughter Yoga International and will be together with 2 of his students the first master Laughter Yoga Teacher worldwide authorized by Dr Kataria to train Laughter Yoga Teachers (trainers of trainers) as of 2011.
