On Laughter As A Spiritual Practice

On Laughter As A Spiritual Practice

Hi, my name is Kundalata dasi and I live in New Delhi, India and lecture on our ancient Hindu scripture the Bhagavad-Gita and how it related to the modern world. This scripture is more than 5000 years old, but is still relevant as it was then. I recently came in touch with laughter yoga and it has changed my life for the better. Today, I would like to share with you a few words about laughter and how it is way to connect with the divine who is the basis of JOY.

Laughing on demand vs Laughing on command

Laughing on demand vs Laughing on command

I recently read a blog from Dr Kataria responding to an actor who said he could easily laugh on command and was wondering what more Laughter Yoga could teach him (a lot!). Dr K’s reply was outstanding as usual, and I took the liberty to build on it. Here it is:

Blog: Of Fun, Laughter and Happiness

The difference between fun and laughter? You can have fun without laughing. Some people, sadly, can even laugh without having fun. To my knowledge, there are vast collections of studies about the healing powers of laughter and humor (read this), or participate in the Laugh Lab (http://www.laughlab.co.uk/) study about what’s funny. But I still haven’t found anyone researching the physiological, psychological or sociological benefits of fun.

Blog: 2012? Preparing for the Apocalypse

Blog: 2012? Preparing for the Apocalypse

According to a variety of surprisingly uninformed sources, there’s at least a slim (or fat) chance that the apocalypse, currently scheduled for 2012, probably won’t happen until 2013. This could be considered good news. I am nonetheless certain that for those who are around to have a retrospect it will do little to ameliorate the anticipated impact. That doesn’t mean we should be any less prepared. Though it does raise the question: how, exactly, does one prepare for the apocalypse?

Blog: Of Fun and War

Blog: Of Fun and War

What do you think when you see grown-ups playing, or dancing or even laughing in public? Let me guess. You think there’s something wrong with them. It’s rude, you think. Childish. A disturbance of the peace. Normally, you’d be right. Except now. Now, it’s after 9/11, and the peace is deeply disturbed – everywhere, globally. And what those grown-ups are doing, playing, dancing, laughing in public is not an act of childish discourtesy, but a political act – a declaration of freedom, a demonstration that we are not terrorized, that terror has not won.

Blog: From Eustress To Distress – When Too Much Laughter Becomes Physiologically Really Too Much

Blog: From Eustress To Distress – When Too Much Laughter Becomes Physiologically Really Too Much

I was told recently about a man who leads 3h Laughter Yoga sessions because he believes that 10 minutes of laughter “just isn’t enough”. My friend was confused because she didn’t know if she or any of her students could laugh that long, and was it healthy anyway? The only way to effectively answer the question of when too much is too much is to first define what a “laughter yoga session” means and looks like. You can easily play for 3h or more, and I would challenge anybody to breathe & laugh actively  non-stop for that length of time without experiencing discomfort. Here is why:
