Laughter literally saved Kimmy O’Meara’s life after she was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease in 2000 and was told she might have just three years to live.

Suffering from severe auto-immune disease in 2000.

“I didn’t see that as an attractive destiny, so I decided to be positive with my thoughts,” she said.

“I had a lot of pain in my joints and hardening muscles, which stopped me from walking for a long time, and my lungs, heart and stomach were starting to deteriorate.

Yes, laughter can be the best medicine

I began to realise that when I laughed the pain went away and my muscles relaxed.”

She researched laughter yoga, became a qualified facilitator and has run classes for five years.

She holds free sessions at the Cancer Wellness Centre in Cottesloe every Wednesday and recently began classes at South Beach near the kiosk on Thursdays ( 6.30pm).
